How To Play Better Golf… It’s Not What You Think

Playing better golf is the lifelong pursuit of every golfer on the planet. Why else would we subject ourselves to one of the most humbling games (sport) ever?

I mean, how many times have you come off the course ready to give it up?

I’m dead serious!

You drive home saying never again! But…you go to the range the next day, or even the same day, after you’ve cooled down.

Man, what a glutton for punishment! Just hours before, you got totally humiliated, and now you’re back for more.

The vicious cycle a golfer goes through every season.

So let me guess. You’ve bought equipment (lots of it). Taken lessons. And pound hundreds of balls every week.

Am I close?

The 6 million dollar question is…have you gotten better? Are you happy with your game? Are you driving it as far as you’d like?

If not, what now?

There’s only one thing left.

YOU!

You’re body is keeping you from the game of your dreams. The game you know you’re capable of playing. Doesn’t that make sense? If you’ve tried all the above and still are not satisfied.

Here’s what you have to do…immediately!

Diagnose your limitations. Is it strength? Is it flexibility? Or how about stamina? You know it’s a strength issue, if your swing mechanics are good, but you’re not hitting the ball any amount of distance.

It’s a flexibility issue if you if you can’t perform consistent swings with proper mechanics. And it’s obviously a stamina issue if your back nine is worse than your front nine.

Once you come up with your personal limitations, you’ve got to set up a program, or search one out that will get you on the right track and not hurt your game.

Working on your limitations will get you the quickest results, in the shortest amount of time. You’ll be amazed at how much better your swing is and how much farther you’re hitting the ball.

Your golf will become enjoyable again, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t take this approach years ago.

Remember, it’s NEVER too late to start!

NEVER!

So get to it right now!

Girls Don’t Abide By The Rules

Are you planning a beach wrestling fundraiser for your club? Beach wrestling events are a fun way to raise money for your club or organization. When making up the rules for your events, particularly the mixed events, you should be aware that once the girls get started they operate strictly on an “anything goes” approach.

A well planned beach wrestling event can be both a successful fund raiser and load of fun. There are many variations that can be used - wrestling in the sand, in the water, tag teams mixed events, pillow fighting, wrestling on a raft in the water, or using a pushing style event in a rubber dinghy. The variations are numerous and these are only limited by your imagination.

Beach wrestling is now included as an Olympic event so for those interested in a more serious approach to this sport Long Beach New York was the site for the East Coast championships and the Oregon Beach Wrestling Division is a good place to start for the west coast. To find a club in California go to http://www.ca-usaw.org/clubs/search.html A quick search on Google will find a club in your area.

The World Beach Wrestling Championships will be held in Turkey this year in October 2006. Beach wrestling in Africa and the Middle East have long been a favorite sporting events so the venue promises some exciting contests.

March 2006 was the closing date for clubs to host this years 2006 USA Beach Wrestling Chanpionships and to date the winning venue has not been announced for the championships to be held in August 18 -19 2006.

If you often go to a wrestling club to keep fit try some sun and surf in the summer as this sport is really taking off.

If you just want to keep fit but are not interested in formal wrestling bouts start your own group and set your own rules, even have mixed bouts for a fun easy way to keep fit in the summer. But do remember if you include the girls don’t get too carried way with rules because they probably wont remember them and if they do well rules were made to be broken.

Some Things You Should Know About The Jet Ski

A Jet ski is a personal watercraft vehicle that can accomodate 1 - 4 persons depending on the model. They were first developed by Yamaha as a one person model, and their popularity has caused other companies to join the booming market for similar watercrafts. The original design had the rider standing or crouching on a small platform towards the rear of the craft. The rider could vary his or her position with a steering column the could move vertically up and down. This aided in variable standing positions as well as letting the rider move with wave action as necessary.

The most notable innovation that came with the Jet Ski design was the jet propulsion system that it incorporated. The Jet Ski was powered bringing water into a tube and pushing out of the rear, thus createing the “jet” effect. This is done by a impeller inside the tube. The tube can also be moved side to side horizontally for steering purposes. This power system is ideal for small watercrafts because it is safe and fast. There is no external propeller or rudder for passengers to worry about. The jet drive is also a very quick means of accelleration for light watercrafts.

Since the first Jet Ski gained huge popularity, the other designs have almost completely replaced the original design. All personal watercrafts still use the same jet propulsion, but the body design is very different. Newer designs are larger and they use a motorcycle style seat that is much more comfortable for cruising and it easily fits more than one passenger. depending on the length of the seat, you can fit 1 - 4 passengers comfortably. The first design of this watercraft was called the WaveRunner and it was made for 2 persons. Modern designs average room for 3 persons because the Jet Ski has now become an alternative to a boat because of its versatility and low price tag.

So You Want To Climb A Colorado “Fourteener”

Have you caught the bug yet? The desire to climb a mountain with a summit rising at least 14,000 feet above sea level has reached near-epidemic proportions in Colorado, with estimates of roughly 500,000 hikers and climbers making their way up a Fourteener each year.

The good news is that a number of Colorado’s 54 Fourteeners can be climbed by anyone with good stamina and overall fitness. That’s also the bad news. People who know little about the special risks of hiking in the mountains often set out along a well-marked and well-traveled trail up a Fourteener ill-equipped for the venture. Hypothermia and dehydration are two of the dangerous and all-too-common problems that might await hikers who aren’t prepared.

It was the Fourth of July weekend, and we headed to the mountains, escaping Denver’s 95 degree heat. As we approached the summit above tree-line (trees can’t grow above a certain elevation; in Colorado that elevation is around 11,000 to 12,000 feet), it began to snow. Hard. And blow. Harder. We donned our wind pants and warm coats, hats and gloves, and continued to the top.

There we found a hiker who had passed us on the trail earlier in the day. He was dressed in running shorts and a light shirt, wearing tennis shoes (which were quite wet by now), and carrying a small, empty water bottle. He was shivering violently. People began bundling him up in their extra warm clothing, giving him food and water, and then helped him back down the trail.

Here are a few basic “rules” to remember before heading up that mountain trail (even when hiking up peaks lower than 14,000 feet):

1. Bring along extra layers of clothing. No matter how beautiful and warm the weather is when you start out, temperatures can plummet and you can get soaked if a thunderstorm moves in.

2. Thunderstorms are extremely common in Colorado’s mountains during summer afternoons. Plan your day so you can be leaving the summit and heading back down the trail no later than noon. Watch the sky for cloud build-up, and turn around earlier if a storm seems to be forming early.

3. Carry plenty of water, and drink frequently. Even in cool weather, you’ll probably need to drink a minimum of 2 quarts of water during your hike to and from the summit of one of the “easier” Fourteeners. That amount of water is on the low side for many people.

4. Some of the other “essentials” to bring along: food (snack frequently - don’t let yourself run out of “fuel”), map & compass (and know how to use them), fire starter, flashlight or headlamp, 1st Aid kit, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

5. Hike with a buddy. That cold, wet guy was lucky that other people came along to help him. Imagine what would have happened if he had been alone for another 30 minutes!

These tips are just a start to help you hike more safely in the mountains. Consider joining a hiking club before tackling higher peaks in Colorado. You’ll find some new hiking partners, learn more outdoor skills, and probably have a great time to boot.

Let’s head for the hills!

FIFA World Cup - A History 1930 to 1958

If the number of television viewers watching a sporting event is any guide to its popularity, then the FIFA World Cup is the world’s favorite, with an estimated viewer ship of nearly 30 billion. How very different from the early days.

In the early 20th century, the only tournament where national teams could compete, albeit on an amateur basis was as part of the Olympic Games. The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) recognized the Olympic tournament as a “world football championship for amateurs” in 1914 and undertook to organize the event under the Olympic umbrella.

Due to the First World War the introduction of the FIFA organized event was delayed until the 1920 Summer Olympics. Belgium won the tournament that year with Uruguay winning the next two titles in 1924 and 1928. During the early planning stages of the 1932 Summer Olympics the International Olympic Committee decided to drop the football tournament because of the low popularity of football in the United States. In response, Jules Rimet, the then President of FIFA passed a vote initiating a tournament to be held in 1930 totally under FIFA’ s control. Thus the World Cup was born. 1930 To honor its 100th birthday and to acknowledge the fact that it had won the last two Olympic competitions, Uruguay was chosen as the first host of the World Cup. Only four European teams took part despite Uruguay’s willingness to pay travel expenses.

The first match was France versus Mexico. Less than 1000 fans turned up to see the French win 4-1. In another match, again involving France, but this time against Argentina, the referee set the depressing pattern of poor decisions in the World Cup by ending the game over six minutes early. The ensuing invasion of the pitch by the Argentinean fans persuaded the referee to play the extra six minutes once the pitch had been cleared. Just as well for Argentina. They won 1-0. The final was a real grudge-match between Uruguay and Argentina. They couldn’t even agree on what type of ball to use so a compromise was reached where a different ball was used for each half of the match. Over 90,000 fans watched Uruguay become the first World Cup Champions by beating Argentina 4-2.

Statistics Host Country: Uruguay

Countries: Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, France, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Romania, United States, Uruguay and Yugoslavia.

1934 On to Benito Mussolini’s fascist Italy for the 1934 World Cup. The Italians didn’t offer traveling expenses so the previous champions Uruguay so they chose not to defend their title. The USA in their second World Cup suffered a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the eventual winners Italy who beat Czechoslovakia 2-1 after extra time.

1938 With war clouds heavy over Europe the World Cup moved to France. Italy were the favorites but their future allies Germany fancied their chances. The Germans, who had recently annexed Austria invited the Austrian players to choose to play for either Austria or Germany. Six of the Austrians chose to play for Germany. It wasn’t a good move as Switzerland knocked Germany out in the first round. The Italians cruised to the final, beating France and Brazil on the way. Hungary were no match for them in the final itself, Italy winning 4-2.

Top goal scorer: Leonidas da Silva, Brazil (8) The Second World War After 1939 the world had more important matters to think about other than football and Italy kept the World Cup Trophy under the bed of Ottorino Barassi, the Italian vice president of FIFA, who feared it would be a prime target for Nazis. Thankfully this action kept the trophy safe and in 1946 as a tribute to Jules Rimet, whose initiative led to the creation of the World Cup Competition, the trophy was officially named The Jules Rimet Trophy. As most of Europe lay in ruins and the world’s economies were devastated by the war the next World Cup competition did not take place until 1950.

1950 After a twelve-year lay off, the World Cup competition returned to South America, this time Brazil. The lack of participating countries caused the organizers a headache so the format was changed. Instead of a final Brazil, Spain, Sweden and Uruguay played in a league format that ended with Brazil just needing a draw in its final game to win the cup. But it was not to be. Brazil’s opponents spoiled the party by winning 2-1.

1954 This was the first World Cup to be televised and the few people with television sets in those days were treated to a feast of goals, the average being 5.38 per game. Some of the highest scoring games were - Hungary 9 South Korea 0, Hungary 8 West Germany 3, (a group stage match that the West German coach wanted to lose to avoid meeting Brazil too early) and West Germany 7 Turkey 2. The highest scoring match in World Cup history took place during this competition. It was the quarter final where Austria beat Switzerland 7-5. The final was a re-match of the earlier game West Germany versus Hungary. This time the West German coach Sepp Herberger fielded his strongest side and beat Hungary 3-2

Countries: Austria, Czechoslovakia, Belgium, Brazil, England, France, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Scotland, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, Uruguay, West Germany, Yugoslavia

1958 Again in Europe, this time Sweden, the 1958 World Cup saw the debut on the world stage of a 17 year old Brazilian destined to become the most famous footballer in the world - Pele. He scored a total of six goals in the tournament including three in the final against hosts Sweden that Brazil won 5-2.

Chamonix Haute Savoie France Is a First-Class Destination for Ski Breaks

Chamonix Haute Savoie is situated at the foot of the magnificent Mt Blanc in the Alps and is regarded as the climbing and extreme skiing capital of the Alps. The resort has been known for a long time as a real domain for activities in summer and winter seasons. The resort was home to the inaugural Winter Olympics back in the 1920s - furthermore it’s also a domain of brilliant views providing much to the mountaineer and vacationer.

However unlike many up to date ski domains Chamonix town is not a purpose built snowboarding domain and has been mostly preserved from the concrete resorts which scars so much of the French Alps. It’s blessed with not only an internationally famous skiing domain but a classic and energetic center.

Chamonix town is large enough to insure that there’s enough for the non skier to see, with all sorts of activities. For whatever type of vacation there is something to suit the whole group. There’s an impressive sports area, spas, paragliding and local market; and a plethora of designer shops, bars and night-clubs, Chamonix town privides a combination of climbing, atmosphere and shopping, that only a few mountain resorts can equal. Go on and organise that luxury chalet straight away.

Exercise For A Golfer…Don’t Fear it

Exercise for a golfer is widely used. Despite the success many professionals have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy in their game, mainly because of golf-specific exercises, many amateur golfers still shun any golf specific exercises.

Even when it is rather obvious that leading names in the game like the legendary Tiger Woods heavily rely on staying in good shape for the game by having personal trainers and by being involved in golf specific exercises.

Bt far the main reason why most still fear and avoid exercise for golfers is the belief that they will develop muscles. Actually lifting weights are a very effective way of toning the golf-specific muscles for the game, by strengthening them. Strength training using weights will never increase the size of your muscles.

Nobody would loathe building big muscles more than most lady golfers. Yet many of them have dramatically improved their games by increasing their strength through golf-specific weight training. Actually you need to be in the gym several hours a day lifting very heavy weights to develop a weight-lifters’ muscles. The weight-lifting exercise regime for golf involves lifting lighter weights many more times over a very short period of time compared to a weightlifter looking for muscles with heavier weights lifted fewer times at a time but for longer hours daily.

The fact that many lady golfers have been able to dramatically improve their game by getting involved in exercises for a golfers, but have not build heavy stiff muscles, should be encouragement enough for many amateurs to seriously consider exercise for a golfer programs.

Apart from weights, most of the exercises for a golfer involve stretch exercises designed to improve a golf swing. Some of these stretch exercises for a golfer can easily be done form the comfort of an office or home when you have a moment to spare.

Close Match between MySpace and Facebook

MySpace, co-founded by Dewolfe, has been receiving a lot of bad press lately. Management of high level are leaving, its main rival, Facebook is expanding dramatically while MySpace is running flat, word on the street that Google will withdraw from an advertising contract that takes up 40% of MySpace’s revenues. That’s why DeWolfe is eager to find out new strategies to give MySpace’s revenues a boost. For example, the MySpace Music which has been launched for one year, will have the new feature of selling concert tickets and band merchandise online. Its game offerings are also upgrading, “virtual” merchandise such as cupcakes can be purchased for visitor’s friends and loved ones. The new focus of MySpace and improving 2.0 MySpace Layouts will be increasing the revenues rather than attracting more new users. “I don’t know Facebook’s profitability,” DeWolfe says. “But if I could have 300 million people using MySpace or be profitable, I would take profitability.”

DeWolfe claims MySpace is profitable. But News Corp thinks that spending on new features and the international expansion has been too much that it dwarfs earnings. Meanwhile, Wall Street has not been impressed a lot by MySpace last year. Analysts predict that once Google withdraws from the advertising contract, it’s not going to be easy for MySpace to find another search engine which can pay as much as Google.

MySpace, with 126 million unique visitors worldwide is relatively small compared with its chief rival, Facebook, which has 236 million in January. However, MySpace does have some advantages in the U.S. market. The visitors of MySpace spend more time on the site than those of Facebook. According to a report from a tracking firm ComSore Media Metric, advertisers prefer visitors spending more time because they will be able to see their ads. DeWolfe is not yet satisfied, he is implementing several new ways to hold the visitors a little longer such as more six-minute shows and new video games. However, visitors hanging around the site longer can not guarantee that MySpace’s revenues from selling ads will increase. When the economy is in its downturn, online display marketing has been hit the most. Michael Nathanson, a senior analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, is not optimistic about MySpace’s future. A 4% decline in ads sales is possible according to Michael.

There is no doubt that “hyper-targeted” ads are most attractive to advertisers nowadays. It is only natural that MySpace is employing this marketing method as many other online media companies did. Target group can be as accurate as 18-50 women who like Gucci and live in Australia. Sony, McDonald’s and Toyota are all potential buyers of these hyper-targeted ads. One thing that its rival Facebook doesn’t offer advertisers is the “home-page takeover”, which is really popular among advertisers according to Debra Aho Williamson, a senior analyst with the market research firm eMarketer. Rumors are that contracts for two founders of MySpace at News Corp may not be renewed.
