According to Health Minister Edwina Hart, it is highly deplorable that the number of cases of violence and aggressions on NHS staff has been on a constant rise. She expressed her resolution to protect workers from such attacks. The current statistics suggest that there were as many as 7,343 cases of such violence in year 2007-08.

These alarming figures have prompted the formulation of a policy statement by the Ministry for inclusion of new protocols with respect to investigation of such cases, collection of evidence, victim support in the court and reviews on the case. NHS Wales and the South Wales Police have thus decided to be more methodical in investigating such cases.
