Learning How to Treat Anxiety Disorders and Finding Natural Panic Attack Remedies

With over 19 million adults affected by them, anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental illnesses in the United States. There are many different types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks, to name a few, but all of them produce symptoms of excessive fear and dread and can be debilitating to those who suffer from them. Learning how to treat anxiety disorders requires time, practice and patience because in almost all cases, anxiety is best treated by behavioral therapy and not by prescription medication.

Panic attacks are a particularly disabling kind of anxiety disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Panic Disorder is characterized by repeated episodes of intense fear that occur frequently and without warning. Panic attacks can last anywhere from a couple of minutes to over a half hour. Most people who suffer from panic episodes usually experience sweating, trembling, rapid heart beat and shortness of breath, and can sometimes also experience chills, cramps, hot flashes, nausea and dizziness.

Panic Disorder is most effectively treated with a combination of psychotherapy and learned relaxation techniques. Many researchers believe that panic attacks are tied to the body’s natural “fight-or-flight” response to danger, and learning to recognize the physiological sensations that accompany this response is an important first step in anxiety relief. Therapy can also focus on identifying the irrational fears that produce attacks (fear of dying, fear of embarrassment…etc) and teaching coping skills. Relaxation and imagery techniques are also commonly taught to help those who suffer from Panic Disorder to alleviate symptoms of panic attacks while they are experiencing them. In all cases, exercises and techniques taught in therapy must be practiced daily in order to be truly effective.

While prescription medication is not usually an appropriate treatment for Panic Disorder, there are natural treatments for anxiety which have been used safely and effectively for centuries to treat symptoms of anxiety. Lavender (or Lavendula Augustifolia) is on of the most popular popular panic attack remedies and is used for its calming properties and its role as a general nervous system tonic. Passion Flower and Lemon Balm are other excellent natural anxiety and panic attack treatments.

If left untreated, Panic Disorder can intensify to a crippling degree and leave some sufferers fearful of even leaving home. Professional help and a true commitment to battling the disorder are necessary components in your ability to overcome your anxiety and to begin to lead a less anxiety-ridden, healthier life.

Nonprofit worker Anthony Loeff is testing screen readers

The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. However functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. Further, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.

Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.

Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Comming month nonprofit worker Anthony Loeff is testing digital tools for people suffering from blindness A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.

The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.

Approximately 16 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. Most legally blind people 72 percent do not use computers.

Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.

Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen.

How South Beach Diet Works

Dr Agatson, created the South Beach diet. It is a low carb diet and is being followed by millions of people worldwide. In this diet highly processed foods and soft drinks are to be cut down completely. Lowering these carbs would help the metabolism and improve the insulin in the liver, and lead to weight loss.

South beach diet is all about eating the right carb and right fats to lose weight and stay healthy. There are 3 phases in South Beach diet and the first one is supposed to be the most difficult one.

First Phase: In the first phase all carbohydrates have to be stopped. Three meals a day along with two snacks are allowed. When carbohydrates are completely stopped the fat in the body is burnt to yield energy. Around 3-5 kgs can be lost in this phase.

Second Phase: In this phase you start adding back some carbohydrates to your diet. This phase will last until the desired weight is achieved. Once you reach your goal you can then have even more foods and keep your weight under control.

Third Phase: The South Beach diet teaches a health way of having food. Once the target weight is achieved you can start adding more foods to your kitty. You will start eating foods in a balanced and disciplined manner. Your intake of minerals and vitamins are balanced to maintain your weight.

Stop Smoking with EFT

You probably know someone who has successfully quit smoking with hypnotherapy or hypnosis. But how about EFT? As a hypnotherapist with 5 years’ experience helping others quit, I can see a future when EFT will be the mothod of choice. So why EFT and what is so special about it?
EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques. It involves gently massaging certain acupressure points whilst repeating phrases designed to free you from a bad feeling. In this case, the bad feeling would be the smoking craving. Hence the “Freedom” part of the name.

Whether smoking cravings are purely emotional or not is subject to debate. I have certainly pushed the boundaries of this method for many physical conditions, and as a trained biochemist, I would seriously challenge anyone to define the dividing line between the emotional and the physical. As a matter of fact, many acupuncturists recommend acupuncture to allow the body to rebalance itself after quitting smoking. And the acupressure points that we use in EFT are the endpoints of the main acupuncture meridians. Only instead of using needles, we stimulate these points by a tapping sort of massage. We tap, usually with two fingers, on the area, thereby stimulating these meridians.

So what is different about the effect of having EFT from the effect of having acupuncture? Well, with EFT, your mind is asked to bring up a bad emotional state so that the acupressure will release you from that bad emotion. It is like the mind is the office cleaner, who goes into the office unobtrusively and takes out the rubbish/garbage for the council/municipality cleaners to take away. These workers in turn come and remove the refuse and it is no longer in your office. Your office is then clean.

And why use EFT instead of hypnotherapy? Because the effect of helping your physical body as well as your mind makes for a very strong combination. Although you can have EFT in hypnosis, this entails the practitioner speaking at a slower rate than using standalone EFT. With standalone EFT, because the practitioner can carry out the treatment at a much faster pace, they can get more done in the same amount of time. In other words, the treatment with EFT reaches further and goes deeper.
I estimate that within the next five years, EFT will have replaced hypnotherapy as the method of choice for quitting smoking. And when ex-smokers-to-be ask for a recommendation to help them stop, they will be asking for a good EFT Practitioner. I look forward to that day.

Move, Move, Move for Greater Weight Loss

Incidental activity is very important in the process of losing weight as you can burn more calories than relying on dietary means alone. Fat is burned from the body when cells oxidize to release energy in the form of exercise or movement. When the exercise is done slowly to moderately then the majority of energy is taken from the fat stores.

The loss of fat comes from fat cells all over the body, not from one or more specific area’s so spot reduction of a certain area is not possible. The main priority of this article is to show you the quickest and safest way to lose fat from the body.

The key to effective aerobic training that burns off the maximum amount of fat is long-term consistency not intensity. It doesn’t matter if you run a mile, jog a mile or walk a mile you will burn exactly the same amount of calories.

The best exercise by far for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors. What many don’t know is that walking produces a greater percentage of fat loss as opposed to jogging or running. Other aerobic activities are the treadmill, bike, climber or any other training gear found in or out of the gym.

Walk or exercise until you are mildly puffing and hold that rate until the allotted time. If your aerobic activities leave you panting or breathless, your going too hard, your energy is coming from your carbohydrate reserves and not from your fat stores. Try fast walking for one hour a day every day of the week if you are able.

Here are some of the benefits of Fast Walking.

 Easy to Perform
 Most Conventional
 All Natural Body Movement
 Doesn’t Cause Injuries
 Can Be Done Anywhere
 The Best Minimal Effort Exercise for Fat Loss

Research shows that regular, brisk walking is one of the best exercises we can do for overall fitness. It suits people of all ages and fitness levels, it’s easy to get started and there’s no complicated technique to learn or equipment to buy.

Walking is an excellent way to get fit because it uses nearly all the muscles and, as you have to carry your body weight, you can get a good workout from it.

It’s also safer on the joints and the back than most other forms of exercise because you’re not jumping up and down, so the impact is low.

Studies have shown that taking a daily 20-minute walk can reduce the risk of heart attack as much as 50%, it also reduces high blood pressure and helps to burn fat to keep weight under control.

Walking and other weight bearing exercises (Strength training) helps to increase bone mass, which protects against osteoporosis and bone fractures.

In the first two weeks, go for a 20-minute walk every other day and then increase this to 40 minutes. At first try to do five 20-minute walks per week totalling 100 minutes a week. Once you get used to the regular exercise, increase this to 40 minutes for five times a week.

You can then gradually increase this as you see fit, if you want to walk every day for 40 minutes or even an hour so be it. Remember the more you walk the more fat that will be burned off. The best pace for fitness training will make you slightly breathless, but you should still be comfortable and be able to carry on a conversation.

As you get fitter, you’ll want to stretch a little harder to keep your heart rate up. Try lengthening your strides, increasing your pace. Keep your shoulders back, your chest lifted and your tummy pulled in when you walk, hold your head up for open, easy breathing.

Practical Tips…

 If your feeling stressed, try counting your steps repeatedly from one to ten as you walk, this helps some people achieve a meditative effect and can be a great tension reliever when practiced over a full 40 minutes.

 Time yourself, measure the distance or increase the gradient to make the workout more challenging. Drink plenty of fluids during and after your walk.

 Make safety your first consideration. Don’t walk after dark except in well-lit, busy places. Start the walk slowly, and then gradually increase the pace.

In all other activities try to move, move, move. Try parking the car further away from your destination so you can walk the extra distance, hide all your remote controls so you have to get up and change the channels manually. These all help burn those extra calories and body fat from your frame.

Weight Loss Using Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil - Use It Externally

In support of other points of view, Coconut Oil is one of the best products available. You can obtain the maximum benefit of Coconut Oil when applied topically.

Let’s face it, Coconut Oil does not taste that great. You can use it in place of butter and in salad dressings in place of other oils but, it has a heavy taste and may not be appreciated by the taste pallet. In addition to using it externally, getting used to using Coconut Oil internally will be most beneficial to your Weight Loss regimen. It will seem as if the extra subcutaneous tissue is just melting away. You will notice a favorable difference by the external use of Coconut Oil.

Use Coconut Oil that does not have any additives. I have found that the kind in the jar is best because it is hard when you use it and stays in the palm of your hand when you apply it to the targeted area. It also has a higher vitamin A and E content. It melts as you massage it in. Just think of it this way, as it melts into your skin so is the fat that you want melted away.

Best used externally, is when you just get done bathing. Your skin is already supple. Towel dry then apply the Coconut Oil starting at the face. Apply on the neck area then the shoulders and arms. Working your way down toward the feet, always using an upward stroke with the palm of your hand. This is a specific massage tactic that increases the flow of oxygen to the heart.

You don’t need to use a lot, just enough. While applying the Coconut Oil, make sure you rub it into your skin well. The facial area is a different story; apply gently. Coconut Oil will help rehydrate your skin.

Coconut Oil is absorbent. In other words, it will absorb into the skin and not cause an oil affect on your clothes like petroleum products do. Use it in place of baby oil when removing makeup. Baby oil and other petroleum based products dehydrate the skin. Petroleum based products WILL increase the cause of wrinkles around the eyes and puffiness as it is non absorbent.

Have you ever had eye surgery for cosmetic purposes or know someone who has? Little did you know that when the surgeon cuts that little line at the corner of your eyes and squeezes out all that oil, that his work is basically done. And you paid the doc thousands of dollars to do it as you did it to yourself by using a non absorbent product. Because Coconut Oil is absorbent, it actually soaks through the dermis layer of the skin and thus causes the -melt fat- effect. In addition to using it internally you will feel the better for it.

Weight Loss or Not, using Coconut Oil WILL cause your skin to not just look hydrated but feel hydrated. Your overall body hydration inside and out will be greatly benefited. You WILL love your body for it and love yourself for using it in all aspects of your daily life in making Healthy Choices. The Tin Man needed lubrication, we do too. A wonderful addition to your Weight Loss Regimen.

Diet Success - Is it All in the Mind?

Why do so many diets fail? In theory losing weight is easy. Simply eat slightly less than the body needs over a sustained period. Yet in reality only a small percentage of people lose weight and keep it off. And whilst it’s true that most diets would be successful if followed, many fail to acknowledge the psychological impact of weight loss. As Oprah Winfrey once famously said “Diet’s don’t work, you’ve got to get to the reason that lies behind overeating.” She had rightly identified what many scientific studies had already indicated. By changing our mental attitude to food we can change our behaviour. Without that change in attitude there is little chance of long term success.

    The Scientific Evidence

A laboratory controlled study conducted at the Littlemore Hospital, Oxford, England concluded that the effect of just food restrictive, weight loss programmes were “surprisingly ineffective as a means of achieving sustained weight loss”. That’s because dieters seem to exhibit one of two distinct behavioural styles.

Behavioural Style One. The dieter starts full of enthusiasm only to revert to their previous eating style before reaching their desired weight. A chart that plots the fallout rates shows that 82% will lose heart in the first five weeks. Typically a specific food or event would trigger the initial break in their resolve, after which the dieter would increasingly revert to their old behaviour.

Behavioural Style Two. Between 3% and 8% of dieters would stick to their diet and achieve their desired weight. Then over time - usually between six months and two years later 70% of this group would have gained most or all of the weight they had previously lost. This leaves only 2% of dieters with sustained, permanent weight loss.

This study is backed up by a substantial study conducted by The University of London, England. Its theme was effective and permanent weight reduction. They were evaluating the effectiveness of combining traditional diet control with positive psychology. Their findings overwhelmingly determined that by combining these techniques weight loss was much more effective and sustainable than just using a calorie controlled diet in isolation.

For permanent weight loss combine diet and positive psychology

Whilst many people can and do lose weight using a controlled diet this doesn’t address the psychological issues that surround eating patterns. For example, the act of eating produces complex ‘psychological anchors’that link the process to emotions like pleasure, satisfaction, self-esteem. Break or change these anchors and losing weight becomes much easier.

Increasingly there are a number of useful courses and books that focus on this area. So if you are serious about sustained and permanent weight loss, take a tip from The University of London study and combine diet control with a change in your mental attitude. Because based on the research it seems that successful weight loss really is all in the mind.

Eating Out Can Be Hazardous To Your Waistline

Going out to eat can really put the brakes on your weight loss
program unless you have exceptional control over what you eat.
Although many restaurants now offer choices for many types of
diets, it’s whats on the rest of the menu that might tempt you
to stray. Often high in salt, sugar and oil most restaurant food
tends to be higher in calories that what you might prepare for
    yourself.

And Americans are eating out more and more. According to Dr.
Caroline Cederquist, a physician who specializes in weight
management, less than 20 percent of the calories Americans
consumed were eaten outside the home in 1978 but in 2003, that
number had climbed to 50 percent. Combine that with the fact
that obesity in Americans is growing each year with as many as
two thirds of Americans being overweight and you might come to
the conclusion that eating out can be hazardous to your
    waistline.

One problem is that restaurants often serve huge portions. That
combined with the fact that we have been conditioned to clean
our plates can result in a huge weight problem. You may feel
morally obligated to eat everything on your plate –even if your
health and your weight might suffer as a result. If you eat out
a lot, you may become accustomed to these large portions and
start to eat like that at home as well.

Another problem with restaurant eating is that they often serve
bread or rolls - and usually not the healthy whole wheat kind
either. Now, when you know you are going out to eat, you
probably eat less throughout the day or delay or skip eating and
by the time you get to the restaurant you are starving. So what
do you do when they bring the rolls? Of course, you dig in
    eating way to many rolls.

You might be dining with a group that likes to savor the
experience and order appetizers before the meal but did you know
that restaurant appetizers tend to be extremely high in
calories? For example, a basket of fried onions can have a
whopping 2,000 calories. Eat a few appetizers to be polite and
you’ll have to run the treadmill for hours to work it off!

Many restaurants now offer free soda refills. Plus the soda
glasses tend to be large to begin with so you are receiving
greater servings of this sugary beverage. The tendency may be to
order seconds because it’s free and you want to take advantage
of that but remember, just the soda alone can put you far over
your daily recommended allowance of calories for weight loss.

Perhaps the greatest restaurant challenge to any dieter is the
buffet. With so many choices you may be tempted to get one of
everything! Since you can go back as many times as you want you
might overindulge. You want to make sure you get your moneys
    worth, right?

So what can you do if you must eat out several times a week?
First of all, make sure you stick to your diet plan. Don’t give
in to eating wrong foods “just this once.” Choose entrees that
have lots of vegetables and avoid dessert entirely. When your
meal comes, set half aside immediately and even ask for a doggy
bag right away so you won’t be tempted to eat the second half
when the first is done. Don’t starve yourself before going out
to eat and you will be better able to avoid eating those rolls
as well as overeating when the meal comes. If you are not
starving when you order, it will be easier to order a healthy
meal an stay away from fatty, high calorie entrees.

Generally, if you stick to sensible and healthy eating patterns
both at home and when eating out you will be developing good
eating habits that will help you lose weight and keep it off for
    life.

Saving your babies cord blood - www.stemcellstorage.org.uk

The method know as 3d ultrasound scanning is that can be used during early pregnancy, it provides 3d images of the fetus. Most times these ultrasound pictures are collated and joined together and animated to make a 4d ultrasound scan.

Three dimensional scans works in the same way to the traditional ultrasound except that the ultrasound pulses are sent from multiple directions. The ultrasound waves are redirected back then captured to provide information to construct a 3-dimensional picture in very much the same way as 3d pictures. 3d ultasound scanning was first developed by olaf von ramm and stephen smith in america.

It’s important to understand that sonologists all over the world always conjured 3d pictures of anatomy or pathology in their minds while doing 2d scans. However, until recently it was very difficult to do this type of reconstruction on patient data acquired using ultasound scanning. The advent of baby scans for the first time allowed us a view into the brain of a sonologist and hence letting us see the images on the ultrasound machine.

The 3d/4d ultrasound image should utilize ultrasound energy following the same limits as conventional 2d ultrasound to create the 3d images. There is no data to suggest harm due to 3d ultasound scanning, its use in non-medical situations needs to be undertaken with an understanding of the risks that may exist.

Also remember, collect your babies umbilical cord blood stem cells by using a company like futurehealth.

Fight Leukemia with a Pre-Sale Ticket Car Wash Fundraiser

One of the most devastating cancers of all is Leukemia and the costs to fight it are immensely expensive. When a child has leukemia it is even more devastating threatening to cut a life short. Many times communities will rally together to have fundraisers to cover the costs. Generally the whole community and several fundraisers can come up with the funds with a couple of large donations. To attract large donors, it pays to have the public relations and show a consciousness effort to reach the goal for the treatment. Every year bone morrow transplants costs in crease. One of the fundraisers you might wish to consider is a car wash fundraiser. A pre-sale ticket car wash fundraiser can make significantly larger dollars than a normal car wash fundraiser. Let’s discuss pre-sale ticket strategies for a moment.

    PRE-SALE TICKETS

You should seriously consider selling presale tickets for your car wash. There are a lot of advantages in pre-selling your tickets such as:

You know about how many people will come to your car wash ahead of time

66% of the ticket buyers never show up but you’ve already got the money

If it rains you’re washed up but not washed out

You will also have use of the money in advance even in the event of rain. Your rain date might be three weeks later yet you have most of the money in your coffers now. Important monies that can go towards your goal for the treatment.

Let’s take one of our 1990 car washes. It was for the local high school band. There were one hundred plus students in the band. The average student sold twenty tickets at $5.00 each. The presale ended up about $10,000. That in it self would be great, but it gets better. The day of the event we raised $985.00 in drive-ups. Some of the girls on the drill team waved tall flags and others held poster board signs that brought the cars in all right. We washed 408 cars. Wow, were we tired! We had two solid lines of cars at least fifteen deep all day long. 201 cars were drive-ups with no presale tickets. With tips included that made up the $985.00. That left 207 cars worth of presale with tickets. But you say, “How can that be?” 207 times $5.00 = only $1,035.00. That’s right. Since our lines were so long a lot of people didn’t claim their tickets or never intended on coming in the first place or forgot or had some thing else to do that day. I believe it was a combination of all these reasons. Whatever the reason, the money went to a good cause. We’ve had many many fundraisers that have been equally successful over the years.

Now someone will have to typeset these tickets and have them printed. There is probably someone in your group who is a graphic artist or really good with a PC or MAC computer. They’ll do fine. The tickets should be eight to ten on a page. You should print them on colored paper so they are not easily duplicated. You should pick a color that matches with your church, club or school’s colors. Have the tickets cut. Put the individual tickets into piles of twenty. Put a piece of cardboard or poster board the exact size underneath each stack. Buy some rubber cement. Put about ten stacks of twenty tickets on top of each other and put them in a vice. Paint the rubber cement on the left side of the ticket book and let dry for one hour. Repeat until you have enough booklets for each member. You might want to print another dozen booklets just in case. If the tickets are selling fast, you don’t want to run out. That will break your momentum.

You should have frequent ticket sales progress meetings with the people selling the car wash tickets. That way, if sales aren’t meeting goals you can help motivate members or reorganize the group.

Tickets can be expensive to print. Ask a local print shop to advertise on the back and become a sponsor in exchange for half price or free printing of the tickets. Most print shops do binding so you may be able to trade for that and save you the time and aggravation of binding the ticket books yourself. Print shops will do a more professional job at binding than you can do on your first time trying. Professional tickets are more presentable and look more official when selling to customers. This will help your group in their selling efforts.

When a community unites in a common cause miracles can occur, all this positive energy and mind power may significantly help the child win their battle with leukemia. Work together and work smart to raise the funds needed and the awareness required to rid the world of this terrible problem and save your local VIP from leukemia. Think on this.
